FAQs

What is a Doula?

A Doula is a trained professional who supports a birthing parent or birthing parents emotionally, mentally, and physically during their pregnancy.

Do you perform any physical examinations?

No, Doulas are not medically trained professionals. We do not perform medical procedures or offer medical advice.

How will hiring you affect my partner’s role during the birth?

My presence will only enhance your partner's role during this great experience. I am not here to take over the role of your partner by any means! I am a resource and support system for the both of you! For example, if while in labor your partner grows tired and/or has to leave to get food for the both of you, I will remain with the birthing parent and care for them while they are laboring - so the birthing parent is never left alone, or feeling alone - unless the birthing parent wishes otherwise.

What are your interactions with medical staff like?

Some birthing parents invite their Doulas to meet their midwife or OBGYN during a prenatal visit at a facility, and sometimes the first time that the Doula interacts with the medical staff is once the labor has begun and the birthing parents have been checked into the faciity. I am here to abide by the Doula Regulations of the birthing facility or hospital, and to serve the birthing family completely. As a Doula I honor and respect our environment, the medical staff's advice, and the desires of the birthing parents. I will simply remind you that you have options and support you in your decisions, and encourage you to advocate for yourself, however I will never speak for you or advocate for you as to not take away your voice and choice in this joyous experience.
